First Scenario Created!

The above is a screen capture of the Select Scenario screen from General Staff. We anticipate shipping with about 20-30 scenarios and this is the first. This first scenario is an – obviously – fantasy match-up between Napoleon commanding portions of the Young Guard and U. S. Grant commanding the famous Iron brigade supplemented with an extra artillery battery and two regiments of cavalry.

We anticipate producing three or more scenarios for every map that we create. Most of the maps will be of historical battles from the 19th century and before. Are there particular battles that you would like to see in General Staff? Please drop us a line.

This first scenario was created to test the AI (crossing rivers and defending bridges), taking advantage of hills and the road net.

That looks very exciting. Will this be available on Steam?

I would be very interested to see any of the battles below.

    Maida 1806
    Albheura 1810
    Sahagun 1808
    Inkerman 1854

    Keep up the good work.

Those Peninsula Campaign (and Crimean) battles are the kind of things that I’m designing General Staff for. I’m looking at smaller battles with interesting terrain. Ideally, I would like to do at least three scenarios for each battlefield: the actual battle, one with the same troops but a slightly altered OOB that balances things and then something with a completely different OOB.

I haven’t written a commercial game in almost 20 years. Back in the ’80s and ’90s my games were published by Microprose, TelecomSoft, GameTech, etc. After that I went back to college, got a Master’s and a Doctorate (working on tactical AI) and then was employed by DARPA, the Office of Naval Research, the DoD and the Army. So, now that I’m returning to creating a commercial wargame for the first time in 20 years, I find myself in a new, and unfamiliar environment. I have no idea how Steam works or how to independently publish a wargame these days. Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated.

This game looks very interesting. When and how are you going to publish it? I would love to be able to play this game myself. It would also be great if you could do some battles from the Finnish war in 1808-1809, e.g. the battle of Siikajoki. Keep up doing great work!

Right now I’m in talks with an international game publisher. I’ll let you know how things progress.

Thanks for the suggestion of battles from the Finnish War. I hadn’t thought of that. I’m definitely looking for battles from that time period.
